Malignant is set to release in English language on HBOMax [US] & in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages in Theatres from 10th September, 2021.
The Conjuring director James Wan is back with a terrifying new vision in the trailer for Malignant. Wan began his career with 2004’s Saw, a movie that kickstarted the torture porn genre for a new generation. The director would go on to work on several prolific horror films over the years, starting a few new franchises with films like Insidious and The Conjuring. Although he has delved into blockbuster fare with Furious 7 and Aquaman, Wan returned to his horror roots with this year’s The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, the third film in the main arm of the Conjuring Universe.
Now, Warner Bros. has finally released a trailer for Malignant, giving audiences an idea of what new terrors the horror mastermind has in store. The film will follow Wallis’ Madison as she experiences horrific visions of other people being murdered. Eventually, Madison realizes that the murderer is a someone from her past named Gabriel, someone who Madison says is the devil. The trailer goes on to reveal that, with each brutal kill, Gabriel gets closer and closer to reaching Madison. Check out the full clip below:
Wan has proven himself adept at new horror franchises and Malignant could be the beginning of another one. The mysterious figure Gabriel has all the making of a classic horror killer – the long, black tench coat, a unique and terrifying weapon, and eerie abilities. Of course, whether or not anyone makes it out alive at the end of the movie remains to be seen. While Madison is clearly the Final Girl of Malignant, horror has veered in new directions in recent years and it wouldn’t be out of the questions for no one to survive the events of the film.
The most important thing for Wan’s upcoming film is that it must differentiate itself from his past films. Malignant’s red and black color scheme in the closing shot of the trailer is immediately reminiscent of the colors in Insidious. Fortunately, Gabriel looks to be an altogether terrifying new presence. Whether or not he’s a demon, the actual devil, or a real life figure with strange powers remains to be seen and hopefully Malignant has some answers.
